Summer League Kickoff: A Packed House and a New Plan!
The league officers were shocked. They said the turnout was double last year’s summer league, and they just didn’t expect so many people to be eager to bowl in the summer. After about an hour of brainstorming, they gave us three options: 1) split off the new bowlers into a separate Thursday night league, 2) bump teams to 4 bowlers and keep Tuesday nights, or 3) go to 5 bowlers per team and stay on Tuesdays. We voted and decided to go with 4-person teams and stick to Tuesday nights.
All that took about an hour and a half to sort out, so it was too late to start league play. Instead, we’ll kick off the competition next week with our new 4-person teams. The center was awesome about it—they let us bowl unlimited games for just $5 a person to make up for the delay. I got to roll a couple of games with my new teammates, which was a great way to break the ice and get to know them better.
Honestly, this is a good problem to have. I keep hearing that casual and entertainment bowling is taking over, pushing league bowling out. But at Victory Lanes, that’s clearly not the case—I’m thrilled to see such a huge turnout! Here’s to next week and the official start of our summer league. See you on the lanes!
Keep striking,
