Daugherty’s Breakthrough Victory in PBA50 Senior Masters 2025

In Las Vegas, Nevada, the PBA50 Tour witnessed a breakthrough performance as Tom Daugherty clinched his inaugural senior title. The 50-year-old from Riverview, Florida, outshone a competitive field of over 300 bowlers to claim the prestigious 2025 USBC Senior Masters championship at Sam’s Town Bowling Center. This triumph marked not only his first PBA50 victory but also a major title, adding to his impressive record of four PBA Tour wins, including one major.

Daugherty’s journey to the top was remarkable. After finishing 12th, ninth, and sixth in his initial three PBA50 tournaments, he showcased his potential by earning the top seed for the stepladder finals. On Saturday, he bested the qualifying leader, Parker Bohn III, to secure the No. 1 position. In the championship match, Daugherty faced Bohn III again, delivering a commanding 233-185 victory. The match began with a strike, followed by a challenging 7-10 split, but Daugherty quickly regained momentum with five consecutive strikes, while Bohn III struggled to maintain consistency.

Reflecting on his opponent’s performance, Daugherty noted, “It’s surprising that Parker hasn’t won this event yet. He mentioned using up his luck in the regular Masters, but he’s bound to claim one soon. He was phenomenal all week; I just got fortunate with the lane conditions.” Bohn III, a USBC and PBA Hall of Famer from Jackson, New Jersey, had dominated qualifying, setting records for 10- and 15-game totals, but faltered in the final due to pin carry issues.

The tournament featured intense stepladder finals. In the opening match, No. 5 seed James Campbell aimed to make history as the first to win both the USBC Super Senior Classic and Senior Masters in the same year. However, Mika Koivuniemi overpowered Campbell with a 249-204 win, striking in frames four through nine. Koivuniemi continued his dominance, defeating Anthony Franklin 268-249 in the second match, before Bohn III edged him out 247-232 in the third. Daugherty’s final victory over Bohn III sealed his $20,000 prize and the coveted title.

Daugherty’s path to the championship was defined by resilience. As a PBA50 rookie, he averaged 243.83 over 12 games in double-elimination match play, remaining undefeated. His scores of 743, 721, and 745 in earlier rounds, followed by a 717-628 win over Bohn III, earned him the top seed, requiring opponents to defeat him twice in the finals—a challenge no one met.

The 2025 USBC Senior Masters, streamed live on BowlTV, highlighted the competitive spirit of the PBA50 Tour. Daugherty’s strategic prowess and mental fortitude shone through, setting a new benchmark for senior bowling. His victory not only bolsters his credentials for potential PBA and USBC Hall of Fame consideration but also inspires aspiring senior bowlers to pursue excellence.

Next, the PBA50 Tour heads to Greeley, Colorado, for the 2025 Senior U.S. Open, starting June 11, with defending champion John Janawicz aiming to retain his title. Daugherty’s win has set the stage for an exciting continuation of the season, with fans eagerly anticipating more thrilling performances.
