Summer League Recap - Week 10
Facing the #1 team in the league—without their two best players—gave us a golden opportunity. One of their top bowlers pre-bowled, and the other was absent, using his handicap score for the night.
We capitalized in a big way, sweeping all three games and total pins for a 7-0 victory! While they beat us in raw scores, our 180-pin handicap advantage made all the difference.
⚙️ Lane Issues Return: Déjà Vu from Week 2
Lanes 17 and 18 lived up to their notorious reputation. Just like in Week 2, the automatic scoring system malfunctioned, forcing us to make continual manual score adjustments. Thankfully, a few veteran bowlers—myself included—knew how to navigate the Brunswick 2000 system.
To make matters worse, “dead wood” and dropped pins were common, slowing things down even further. However, with only two active bowlers on their side, the pace felt pretty balanced. For once, we weren’t the last ones to leave the building—a rare win in itself!
📝 Game-by-Game Breakdown
🎯 Game 1: Strong Start with the GB5
Coming off a season-high 222 last week, I started confidently with the GB5. I threw four strikes in a row and three solid spares, but open frames in the 2nd (missed 10-pin), 8th (1-3-6-9), and 9th (6-7 split) cost me a 200+ game. A 5-10 split pickup in the 3rd boosted morale.
Final score: 187
🎯 Game 2: Clean Early, Messy Finish
I stuck with the GB5 for the first nine frames and switched to the Black Venom in the 10th. The game started strong—four-bagger, 9-spare, 8-split-spare (another 5-10 pickup). But my thumb gave me trouble in the 7th, and I didn’t mark again after that.
Final score: 174
🎯 Game 3: Spare Trouble Takes Its Toll
Game 3 was frustrating. Despite solid first-ball counts, I missed too many single-pin spares. I opened with a strike, then rolled five straight 9-counts, converting only two. By the 10th frame, I was more than ready to wrap it up.
Final score: 132
🏆 Team Takeaway
All of the guys had great moments tonight, and it felt good to walk away with a shutout win. We’ll enjoy this victory and turn our attention to next week’s matchup.
Keep striking, and see you on the lanes!
