Winter Leagues Updates - Weeks 1 and 2

Combined Weekly Update

Lane Masters (The Hasbeens)

Week 1

The season opened on lanes 19/20 with The Hasbeens. Unfortunately, persistent mechanical issues with the pinsetters caused repeated delays throughout the night.

Personal Performance:

  • FBA: 8.38

  • Strike %: 18%

  • Spare %: 50%

    • Makeable: 55%

    • Single: 54%

    • Multiple: 55%

  • Split %: 33%

  • Open %: 40% (13)

  • Average: 150.67

  • Adjusted Avg. (if all single-pin spares converted): 165.33

Team Results:

  • Points: 5/2

  • Scratch Series: 1,594

  • Standing: 5th place

  • Next Opponent: 2nd-place team with two 200+ average bowlers. We’ll carry a 210 handicap against their 75 pins.

Week 2

We started on lanes 17/18, but by the 5th frame, persistent A-2 pinsetter issues and scoring errors halted play. After a 45-minute delay, we were moved to lanes 11/12, where the night finally stabilized.

Our opponents were ranked #2, with two bowlers averaging over 200. Game 1 was close until the final frame, but we fell short by 17 pins. Game 2 widened to a 53-pin deficit. We rallied in Game 3 with a decisive 120-pin win, though the opposing team’s energy had clearly dipped. Final tally: 3 points won, 4 lost.

Personal Notes:

  • Struggled with multiple splits in Games 1 and 2 (three in Game 1, two in Game 2). None were converted.

  • Game 3 was stronger: 184 score, five strikes, and only two opens (a ten-pin in the 6th and an unconverted 4/6 in the 10th).

  • Equipment adjustments: Began with the GB5 and Black Venom, but switching to the Destiny Hybrid late in Game 2 proved effective. In hindsight, an earlier switch could have salvaged Game 2.

An additional 10-minute interruption occurred when an intoxicated league member was removed from the center. While disruptive, it briefly shifted focus away from our struggles on the lanes.

Next Week: Facing the last-place team, who showed improvement this week.

Prime Timers (Right-Left-Right)

Week 1

This was my first time bowling with Right-Left-Right, though I know my teammates from other leagues. Despite a lackluster individual performance, we secured a strong team result—taking all 7 points and landing in a statistical tie for 2nd place after Week 1.

Personal Performance:

  • FBA: 6.59

  • Strike %: 21%

  • Spare %: 29%

    • Makeable: 28%

    • Single: 50%

    • Multiple: 23%

  • Split %: 33%

  • Open %: 54% (17)

  • Average: 125.0

  • Adjusted Avg. (if all single-pin spares converted): 132.0

Team Results:

  • Points: 7/0

  • Scratch Series: 1,222 (1,792 with handicap)

  • Standing: 2nd place

  • Next Opponent: 6th-place team. I will be out of town, so my teammates will need to cover in my absence.

Week 2

My original travel plans changed at the last minute, which allowed me to make it in time to bowl. We faced a strong husband-and-wife duo, supported by a steady, methodical teammate. Fortunately, the pins fell our way, and we came away with all 7 points.

I finished with a 486 series, highlighted by a 181 high game. We bowled on lanes 11/12, and the night ran smoothly with only minimal mechanical interruptions.

Looking ahead, we’ll be up against a tough opponent with just a 49-pin handicap advantage. To stay competitive, everyone will need to execute quality shots, convert spares, and maintain focus. It promises to be a real shootout.
